NutraSweet & Aspartame
The Sweet Poison
Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names, NutraSweet, Equal,
Spoonful, and Equal-Measure. Aspartame was discovered by accident in 1965, when
James Schlatter, a chemist of G.D. Searle Company was testing an anti-ulcer
drug. Aspartame was approved for dry goods in 1981 and for carbonated beverages
in 1983. It was originally approved for dry goods on July 26, 1974, but
objections filed by neuroscience researcher Dr John W. Olney and Consumer
attorney James Turner in August 1974 as well as investigations of G.D. Searle's
research practices caused the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to put
approval of aspartame on hold (December 5, 1974). In 1985, Monsanto purchased
G.D. Searle and made Searle Pharmaceuticals and The NutraSweet Company separate
subsidiaries.
NutraSweet is the sugar-free source of sweetness in more than 5,000 consumer
foods and beverages sold worldwide. The public has been deceived for years
about the heath risk of Aspartame.
Aspartame is made up of three chemicals: Aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and
methanol. The book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, by James and Phyllis
Balch, lists aspartame under the category of "chemical poison."
What does Aspartame do?
First, aspartame releases aspartate
during digestion. Aspartate is a neurotransmitter used by the neurons in the
brain. It is a type of excitatory amino acid. Excitatory amino acids are
normal and necessary brain chemicals, and as such, they are allowed to cross the
blood-brain barrier. Aspartate, the principal chemical component of aspartame,
is a neurotransmitter and a type of excitatory amino acid. It is a natural and
necessary body chemical. Neurotransmitters cross the blood-brain barrier.
The blood-brain barrier is designed
to protect the brain from the invasion of harmful chemicals. When normal
neurotransmitters such as aspartate and glutamate cross this barrier in excess,
they will cause poisoning and lead to the death of the nerve cells within the
brain and spinal cord. The blood-brain barrier cannot discern the amount that
is needed from too much. So these neurotransmitters can build up undetected
until a toxic level is reached. This accumulation seems to be particularly
insidious in its effect on the developing brains and nervous systems of
children.
Aspartame Side Effects
There are over 92 different health side
effects associated with aspartame consumption. It seems surreal, but true. How
can one chemical create such chaos?
Aspartame dissolves into solution and can
therefore travel throughout the body and deposit within any tissue. The body
digests aspartame unlike saccharin, which does not break down within humans.
The multitude of aspartame side effects are
indicative of our genetic individuality and physical weaknesses. It is important
to put two and two together, nonetheless, and identify which side effects
aspartame is creating within you.(2)
The following symptoms are listed on the Aspartame Consumer Safety Network
Fact Sheet:
headaches, nausea, vertigo, insomnia, numbness, blurred vision, blindness
and other eye problems, memory loss, slurred speech, depression, personality
changes, hyperactivity, stomach disorders, seizures, skin lesions, rashes,
anxiety attacks, muscle cramping and joint pain, loss of energy, symptoms
mimicking heart attacks, hearing loss and ear ringing, and loss or change of

Americans are not the only people worried about the safety of
aspartame. In 1988, the Mexican government issued a detailed warning to be put
on diet sodas that contain aspartame (Bouleau 66). The label on these diet sodas
reads:
This product should not be consumed by individuals who are allergic to
phenylalanine. Consumption by pregnant women and children under 7 is not
recommended. Users should follow a balanced diet. Consumption by diabetics
must be authorized by a physician, (Bouleau 66).
"When the temperature of
Aspartame exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in
ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to
formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis.
(Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants).
The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis; thus
people were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error." (3)
During a lecture I said, “If
you are using ASPARTAME (NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) And you suffer from
fibro myalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps,
vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety
attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss-you probably have
ASPARTAME DISEASE!”(3)
"Here is the problem.
There were Congressional Hearings when aspartame was included in 100
different products. Since this initial hearing, there have
been two subsequent hearings, but to no avail. Nothing has
been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep
pockets. Now there are over 5,000 products containing this
chemical, and the PATENT HAS EXPIRED!!!!!
There is absolutely no reason
to take this product. It is NOT A DIET PRODUCT!!!
The Congressional record said, “It makes you crave carbohydrate
and will make you FAT”, Dr. Roberts stated that when he
got patients off aspartame, their average weight loss was 19 pounds per person.
The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and
thighs."
Aspartame Disease is
partially the cause to what is behind some of the mystery of the Dessert Storm
health problems. The burning tongue and other problems
discussed in over 60 cases can be directly related to the consumption of an
aspartame product. Several thousand pallets of diet drinks
were shipped to the Dessert Storm troops. (Remember heat
can liberate the methanol from the aspartame at 86 degrees F).
Diet drinks sat in the 120 degree F. Arabian sun for weeks at a time on
pallets. The service men and women drank them all day long.
All of their symptoms are identical to aspartame poisoning.
Dr. Roberts say “consuming aspartame at the time of conception can cause
birth defects.” The phenylalanine concentrates in the
placenta causing mental retardation, according to Dr. Louis Elsas, Paediatrician
Professor – Genetics, at Emory University in his testimony before Congress.(3)
Stevia - Alternative to Aspartame
Stevia, a sweet food,
NOT AN ADDITIVE, which helps in the metabolism
of sugar, which would be ideal for diabetics, has now
been a dietary supplement by the F.D.A. For years, the
F.D.A. has outlawed this sweet food because of their loyalty to MONSANTO.(3)
"Unlike sucralose and other artificial sweeteners that have been cited for
dangerous toxicities, stevia is a natural alternative that's ideal for
diabetics, those watching their weight and anyone interested in maintaining
their health by avoiding sugar. Stevia can be used in appetizers, beverages,
soups, salads, vegetables, and desserts -- virtually anything! It is, hands
down, the best alternative to sugar you will ever taste.
WARNING: I want to emphasize that if you have insulin issues, I recommend
that you avoid sweeteners all together including stevia, as they all can worsen
the problem. But for everyone else, if you are going to sweeten your foods and
beverages anyway, I strongly encourage you to do so with stevia."(1)
We could go on and on with the list of problems caused by aspartame. A
lot of these companies only care about making a profit. They don't think
twice about the risk their products might have on people. "For the love of
money is the root of all evil..." 1Timonty 6:10. How true this is.
Money has such an influence on peoples lives and sadly and most often times it
has a negative affect. I strongly recommend that before you ingest anymore
of this chemical, that you do your research. My question to you is.... Why
in the past number of years has there been such an increase in the number of
premature illnesses among people? Look at how many people who are getting
cancer, MS, diabetes, and Alzheimer just to name a few. I believe that
aspartame is only one piece of the puzzle on putting together why all the
sickness today. Other pieces of the puzzle include vaccines, chemicals and
fertilizers, poor food supply etc... My hope is that this website will
help put these pieces of the puzzle together and expose these health risk
